I approached the spiral staircase and saw the vomit and blood spots as I walked upwards. The person bleeding must have been walking slowly as the blood spattering visible on every third step was circular - a straight drop downwards. Had the blood spots been elongated it would have shown a quicker movement by the injured person. This was someone walking very slowly. Was I at some sort of crime scene? No. I was walking up the spiral staircase to the elevated reaches of the main entrance to the Queens Medical Centre, to be interviewed by the respected broadcaster and reviewer Kev Castle on Hospital Radio.
We spoke about growing up on the mean streets of Bulwell, the 1980's, the police then and now, writing, and my novels.
